Gourt de Mautens, Rasteau 2001

Deep red, some rim evolution.

Vinturi - earth, toast, fragrant spices, raspberry/hazelnut sauce on the nose. This doesn't remind me of the southern Rhone. On the other hand, neither do the wines from Soumade.

Much less extracted than earlier vintages, also (seemingly) less ripe, with strong acidity. Pretty bound up at present. Shows some sulfide chew that adds to the impression of austerity. Eventually cranberry and hints of citrus emerge. No idea where this is going.
