Achaval-Ferrer "Quimera" Mendoza 2006

Saturated purple/red.

Vinturi - deep nose - clay/earth, hazelnut sauce, fig. Savory.

Middle-weight, intense and lean. Manages some nice initial roundness and plush mid-palate. Not a great deal of flavor precision, but makes up for it, to some extent, with monochromatic "guts". Reminds me of Artadi's "Vinas de Gain" in that sense, bound to be a bit over-rated. But a pretty thing, nonetheless, and may well acquire more complexity with bottle-age. Finish is lean, though. Does not have the concentration I initially thought it had. We'll see...

$35. 34% Malbec, 32% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc.
