Grand Veneur "Les Origines" Chateauneuf-du-Pape 1999

Red.

Cherry/plum jelly, pepper, cinnamon and earth nose.

Round, with a slight textural sweetness. Definitely more bass here than in the Burgundys, though not nearly as evolved in character. Cherry jam and herbs in the mouth, with relatively strong acid/tannin synergy clamping down in the finish. Pepper and herbs linger. This seems nowhere near its peak.

$25.
